About me

Ten facts about me:

  1. I have no medical degree of any kind.  Anything I write here is based solely on personal experience or hearsay and should not be taken as medical advice.
  2. I am a Christian.  I hope that does not trouble you.  It does shape my world view.  Just saying.
  3. I treasure my sleep.  Many nights it eludes me, but there is not much on this earth more comforting, healing and refreshing than a good night's sleep.
  4. I am married with four children, one in graduate school, two in college and one in high school.
  5. I have two dogs.  I have a phobia of cats.  My worst nightmares are about cats.  I have never had a bad dream about a dog (that I remember).
  6. I do not like to shop, and I have not figured out Pinterest.  I suspect that the people who intuitively understand Pinterest are people who like to shop.
  7. My favorite snack is a banana spread with Nutella.
  8. I try to eat healthy food, but I am not a complete stickler.   I had to stop reading Dr. Mercola, because he made me too paranoid.
  9. I am not big on medicine.  Although there is a time and a place for doctors and prescriptions, I try to take care of things at home, naturally, whenever I can.  I have less trouble with side effects that way.
  10. I have some sort of auto-immune condition that the doctors have not figured out.  In my blood, there is an antibody that attacks the thyroid.  One doctor told me my problem was Hashimoto's Disease, which is a thyroid disease.  The endocrinologist, however, said (and I quote),   "Just because you have the antibody in your blood that attacks your thyroid, and the symptoms, it doesn't mean you can blame your symptoms on your thyroid."  And then she sent me away with no further referral.  Too tired and discouraged to continue spending money looking for answers, I went home and took some Tylenol and a nap.  For simplicity's sake, I refer to my condition as Fibromyalgia.  I ache, my hair is falling out, I'm always tired, my eyes are really dry, and I have spells of intense pain in my head, neck and shoulders.  But--bless my husband--I don't have to go to work, so it's all good.
